We are pretty leanient here at DC 7 as far as the requirements. 1 safety class (minimun 4 hours) and 800 hours in the field with no loss of time accidents.
We do have skills upgrade classes but only the safety classes qualify.
We didn't have a experation on our OSHA 10 class for the longest time but as of 1/1/08 we started having them expire after 5 years. We got some complaints but that was minor and has passed.

Hello Baldman,
Our Star program in DC 78 consists of 2 safety and one skill. We have added a foreman training class that is an eight hour course that counts for two. Question: Are you having trouble getting your Journeyman in for upgrade training? Or for Star? Any ideas how to get them in?

Here at DC58 we just had our first STAR Award Picnic on Sept. 27. We had a good turnout considering it was our first run. As far as work hours go, we require 800 safe work hours to qualify. Our Award program is set up into four tiers: Tier 1 being the lowest and Tier 4 being the highest. To be eligible for Tier 1 you have to have 800 safe work hours and one safety class, Tier 2 is two safety classes + 800 safe work hours, Tier 3 is three safety classes + 800 safe work hours and Tier 4 is four or more safety classes + 800 safe work hours. We do not count skill/upgrade training towards the program. As far as the life of the OSHA, we recommend that members renew yearly. Some plants, refineries and contractors have site specific rules that require employees to have yearly updated cards(OSHA, Lead, scaffold/lift etc) This is the basic outline for our program. If you need any more info about our setup, email me. Hope this helps...
